It’s my birthday! Well, close because it’s this weekend! And I am celebrating in true Dallas style … with brunch!
The older I get, the less of a production my birthday becomes. I used to celebrate the entire month and now I have so much going on, I’m lucky if I can squeeze in one or two days. And honestly, I’m starting to prefer it that way! The older I get, the less I want to do the “party like a rock star” thing, so when the idea of a birthday brunch came up, I loved the idea!
Now, I’m no stranger to brunch because practically every Dallas restaurant offers some type of Sunday brunch offering, but Cedar Grove’s Drag Brunch takes it to a whole new level! As soon as I heard about the Drag Brunch, I knew it was perfect!
The fight against HIV/AIDS is personal to me because my mentor and voice teacher is HIV positive and he is one of my favorite people in the whole world. I was excited about being a part of the DIFFA Style Council because of the work they do to support HIV/AIDS organizations but I had no idea how it would affect me personally. The volunteering I’ve been able to do has been truly life-changing. Even something as small as making a gourmet lunch for the clients of the Resource Center was so, completely rewarding. And being able to meet and talk with the people we’re helping by being on style council has taught me so much. Small gestures like supporting gay-friendly businesses go a long way in advocating for the LGBT community. And what’s more fun than Drag Brunch?
